As part of our Connecting Communities mandate, our Pen Pal program matches individuals interested in connecting through the art of writing based on mutual interests! This provides the opportunity for individuals to share letters, artwork, postcards and stories as they develop a friendly relationship. 

Participants are free to express their feelings, and describe their lives honestly, and can trust us to respect their privacy. Every letter sent in this program must first be addressed to the Routes office for it to be screened and readdressed. We do this to protect the safety and privacy of our community and to ensure that everyone involved is safe. Please know that a Pen pal is not a counselling service and any letters of that nature will result in immediate contact or referral to the appropriate responders, agency or service.

Additionally, we organize several letter writing campaigns throughout the year to support the social inclusion and mental well-being of seniors. Past examples include letters for the winter holidays, valentines day, updates from summer camp, Remembrance day & so many more that are sent to nursing homes, hospitals, or seniors groups across York Region.
