Frequently Asked Questions


How much notice is required to book a ride?

Transportation services are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis and must be booked 48 hours in advance. We will attempt to accommodate last minute emergencies. Pick up times and fees will be confirmed the day before.


How do I know I qualify for your services?

Our services are provided to residents of York Region who cannot, because of their financial, physical or mental challenges, travel by conventional transit or taxi. Eligibility for our services will be assessed during an intake.


Are your services wheelchair accessible?

Our services are wheelchair accessible! Wheel chair accessible transport is available in our accessible van. More information


Can I bring someone with me?

You may bring a companion or helper on your ride, at no extra cost, but it needs to be arranged with the office upon booking. All additional riders must leave the car at the destination and return together with you after the appointment.


Do you allow pets?

You can only take pets when the pet is in a carrier or crate and when previously approved by our office. If you wish to travel with a service animal, please mention it when booking your ride.


What are your hours of operation?

We are open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and closed on statutory holidays.


What are the hours that you provide transportation?

Evening and weekend rides are available.


Are your volunteers screened and how?

All of our drivers use their own cars to transport you. Their screening includes a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check, a 3-year Statement of Driving Record, proof of ownership of their car, visual car inspection, proof of insurance and driver’s license. They receive an orientation and training by staff.


What is the cost for a ride?

Cash rides are $0.53 per kilometer with a minimum of $11 or a return trip and a $2 administrative fee per booking. All rates include a return trip, a two-hour wait time at your destination and a maximum of three stops. One extra stop can be arranged for $1. Drivers are reimbursed for their expenses. We do not encourage gratuities.


What is your service area?

Rides can be to destinations within as well as outside York Region for medical, social, banking, recreational purposes and activities of daily living requirements. If the driver is taking you back, you cannot leave the destination without letting the driver know.


What is the method of payment?

Rides can be paid in the following ways:

Cash: you pay the driver directly, Invoiced: we invoice a third party organization

Subsidized: for example: rides to the Georgina Food Pantry

Part-Sub: if you have been approved by our Fee Subsidy Assistance Program, you only pay a portion of the fare to the driver.


Do you offer door to door service or curb to curb service?

We offer curb-to-curb service. If you require door-to-door service, you can request this when booking as we might have a driver available who can provide door-to-door service. The driver does not enter a home. We cannot guarantee door-to-door service.


Can anyone qualify for your bus trips?

Yes.

In addition to our volunteer drivers, we are looking for delivery drivers, friendly callers, Board members, bingo attendants (Newmarket), ambassadors, technology support (Youth) & more!
