Located in Georgina, we empower York Region residents to be more self-sufficient and engaged in their communities by removing some of the barriers they face due to lack of transportation options. Apart from affordable transportation, we offer a caring conversation along the way.
Our organization is currently funded by the Town of Georgina, the Regional Municipality of York Region, CHATS, the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Ministry of Transportation.
We provide 12,000 rides to 5,000 rides on a yearly basis. We have 27 volunteers who provide safe, reliable and supportive transportation in their own vehicles for residents who would otherwise struggle to meet this need.
Either an agency is invoiced for a ride or the client reimburses the driver for the mileage. Low-income residents can also apply for fee subsidy assistance.
In addition to these individual rides, Routes organizes bus group trips to shopping centres and theatres. The trips are aimed at reducing social inclusion.
Formerly Transit Georgina
Our organization was known as Georgina Mobility Transit/Transit Georgina for many years. In 2013 we officially became "Routes Connecting Communities". This more accurately reflects our work while honouring the remarkable roots from which we have grown. We're very proud that our new name and brand has been very well received with our stakeholders.
